Participating stores agree to stock at least two new items of their choice from the following food categories: fruits, vegetables, low-fat dairy or whole grain products. In exchange, they receive resources designed to increase sales of healthier food items:
- Free in-store display to promote healthy food items
- Free stickers to identify new healthier items being stocked
- Free promotional window posters
- Free health information handouts for customers
- Free newspaper and/or radio advertising promoting the store as a Steps Corner Store
- Free listing on the Steps to a Healthier New Orleans website
- Free promotion at community gatherings, including local Farmer’s Markets or clinics
On September 18, 2007, Steps announced the initial 13 stores to take part in this program. The stores are:

- Magnolia Supermarket, 2201 Magnolia St.
- Terranova Supermarket, 3308 Esplanade Ave.
- A&J’s Mart, 5163 General Degaulle Dr.
- Lucy’s Supermarket , 3443 Paris Ave.
- Zara Little Giant Supermarket, 4838 Prytania St.
- Archit Discount Store, 114 Baronne St.
- Zara’s Supermarket, 2042 Prytania St.

ABOUT STEPS
Steps to a Healthier Louisiana (New Orleans) is an affiliated program of the Louisiana Public Health Institute (LPHI) in partnership with the City ofNew Orleans . The program seeks to increase physical activity and fruit and vegetable consumption throughout the New Orleans population by implementing community and school based outreach activities that focus on reducing the burden of diabetes, asthma and obesity.
